Delhi University Begins New Academic Year with Freshers' Orientation

Delhi University (DU) officially commenced its new academic session on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with colleges across the campus welcoming freshers through orientation and induction programmes. These events aim to familiarise students with campus life, academic procedures, and available student support services. Department-wise orientation sessions are already underway, while common induction programmes are scheduled later this week.

Admissions Still Ongoing Amid New Session

Even as classes begin, the university is in the midst of the second round of undergraduate admissions under its Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS). Thousands of candidates have accepted their newly allotted or upgraded seats, with colleges continuing to verify applications and process admissions. Students have been urged to complete their fee payments by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to secure their places.

The second round of admissions saw DU extend the deadline for candidates to accept their seats until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026. Colleges have until the end of Tuesday, July 28, 2026, to approve applications.

Record Numbers in Admission Process

The scale of this year’s admission process underscores DU's popularity. In the first round of CSAS admissions, 63,756 candidates confirmed their seats out of 93,033 offered across 221 programmes in 67 colleges. This comes from a pool of over 2.08 lakh applicants who had completed Phase II of the process by submitting their programme and college preferences.

The start of the academic session, even as admissions continue, highlights DU's efforts to balance its large-scale intake with a smooth onboarding process for students. With over 71,000 seats available, the university remains one of the most sought-after higher education institutions in the country, reflecting its enduring appeal among students nationwide.
