CRUT Plans to Deploy 400 More E-Buses Across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has announced plans to expand its electric bus fleet by adding 400 new e-buses across five cities in Odisha—Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur, and Berhampur. The announcement was made on Thursday by CRUT Managing Director Mohd Siddique Alam.

In addition to the e-buses, the state is set to introduce three hydrogen fuel cell buses with support from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, furthering its commitment to green mobility. Since its inception in 2018, CRUT has steadily grown its fleet, which is expected to reach 760 buses by April 2026.

Electric bus services were first introduced in Sambalpur and Berhampur in 2024, followed by significant expansions in 2025. To support this growth, modern depots have been established in Gadakana, Naraj, Puri, Sambalpur, Berhampur, and Keonjhar.

Infrastructure upgrades include dedicated terminals for electric vehicles at Chandrasekharpur and Master Canteen in Bhubaneswar, as well as the installation of 153 new bus poles in Cuttack. These measures aim to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of public transport in the state.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra reiterated the state’s commitment to providing safe, affordable, and technology-enabled public transportation for its citizens.
