A New Zealander with advanced cancer of the stomach and small intestine has become the first international patient to receive China’s newly approved CAR-T cell therapy for solid tumour cancers.

Approval came in June

Chinese regulators approved the treatment in June, describing it as the world’s first CAR-T cell therapy for solid tumour cancers.

The therapy was developed by a drug company based in Shanghai.

One month after the approval, the patient received the breakthrough treatment at a hospital in the city.
