CET College Proposal to Undergo Extensive Consultations, Panel Confirms
CET's proposal to become a constituent college will be finalised after thorough consultations, ensuring stakeholder engagement and transparency.
The high-level committee tasked with evaluating the proposal to convert the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram (CET), into a constituent college under the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU) has assured stakeholders that its recommendations will be finalised only after extensive deliberations. The panel, chaired by Kerala State Higher Education Council vice-chairperson Achuthsankar S. Nair, has sought additional time from the State government to ensure a meticulous consultation process.
Stakeholder Concerns Prompt Reassurance
Amid growing concerns among CET students and faculty, Nair clarified that speculative reports and interpretations have surfaced even before the committee’s first official meeting. He emphasised that the panel will engage with all stakeholders, including academic representatives and organisational leaders, before drafting its proposal.
To facilitate this, stakeholders have been invited to share their feedback and suggestions directly with the committee via email at vc.kshec@kerala.gov.in.
Government Stresses Inclusive Decision-Making
Kerala’s Higher Education Minister Roji M. John, addressing the media in Kozhikode, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the growth of both CET and KTU. He assured that a widely acceptable decision would be reached after consultations with all concerned parties.
The proposal, which could significantly reshape CET’s administrative and academic structure, has sparked debate within Kerala’s higher education community. The committee’s pledge to prioritise inclusivity and transparency is likely to play a crucial role in addressing these concerns.
