State-Level Carrom Tournament Begins in Nellore Today

The Andhra State 1st Ranking Carrom Tournament–2026 kicks off today at Nellore Club, bringing together top players from across Andhra Pradesh. Organised by the Andhra State Carrom Association (ASCA) in collaboration with the SPSR Nellore District Carrom Association, the three-day event will see around 200 participants from 15 districts competing for ranking points crucial to state team selection.

High-Stakes Competition

The tournament features Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles categories, with all matches conducted on a knockout basis. ASCA General Secretary Shaik Abdul Jaleel emphasised the significance of the event, stating, “This championship would bring together the finest carrom players to compete for the state ranking title.”

Star Players and Officials

Several distinguished players are set to participate, including international players CH. Janardhan Reddy from Visakhapatnam and B. Shobhika, who works under the sports quota in the Income Tax Department. Guinness World Record holder S.K. Husna Sameera is also among the notable names competing, alongside other leading talents from across the state.

To ensure smooth conduct, experienced technical officials have been appointed. D.S.R. Murthy will serve as Chief Referee, while S.K. Sajida will assist in the role of Assistant Chief Referee.

Importance of Ranking Points

The ranking points earned during this tournament will play a pivotal role in determining the state team for upcoming national championships, making this event a critical platform for players aiming to represent Andhra Pradesh on a larger stage.

Inauguration by MLA

Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy will inaugurate the tournament as the chief guest, adding a ceremonial touch to the proceedings.

The tournament promises to showcase exceptional talent and fierce competition as players vie for top honours and crucial rankings.
