AIADMK Rebel Leaders Velumani, Viswanathan Skip EPS-Chaired District Meeting

S.P. Velumani and Natham R. Viswanathan, described as rebel leaders in the AIADMK, did not attend a district secretaries’ meeting chaired by general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the party head office in Chennai.

The meeting was held on Sunday.

Bypoll performance, December meetings on agenda

The meeting discussed the party’s performance in the recent bypolls in the Dharapuram and Madurantakam Assembly constituencies.

Preparations for the AIADMK’s general council and executive committee meetings were also taken up.

Those meetings are expected to be conducted in December this year.

Senior leaders A. Tamilmagan Hussain, K.P. Munusamy and Dindigul C. Sreenivasan were among those who attended the meeting.

Statement on medicine prices

Earlier, Palaniswami issued a statement criticising the TVK-led government over the rates of medicines in Mudhalvar Marundhagams, formerly known as Amma Marundhagams.

Citing a report from the All India Drug Action Network, he said medicines at Amma Marundhagams were being sold at rates higher than the prices fixed.

He said the higher rates were affecting the poor.

The party also saw the induction of retired Additional Superintendent of Police S. Velladurai, who was known for his involvement in several ‘police encounter’ cases.

Velladurai joined the AIADMK in the presence of Palaniswami on Sunday.
