Yamuna swelling in Kanpur Dehat puts riverside villages on high flood alert

Rising water levels in the Yamuna river have heightened flood risks in several riverside villages of Kanpur Dehat district, triggering concern among residents and prompting authorities to step up monitoring and preparedness measures. The Moosanagar police station area, particularly Chaparghat and surrounding villages, is on high alert as both the Yamuna and Sengur rivers continue to swell during the monsoon season.

According to data from the Irrigation Department, the Yamuna's water level was recorded at 118.69 meters in Kanpur Dehat and 105.340 meters in Auraiya on August 20. The rising waters pose a recurring threat to villages including Aadhan, Pathar, Musaria, Padav, Kumbhapur, Nayapurwa, and Bhunda, where connectivity routes are regularly disrupted during heavy rainfall. In severe cases, villagers are forced to rely on boats for daily commute, while waterlogged fields put standing crops at risk.

Cabinet Minister Rakesh Sachan has appealed to residents to strengthen their arrangements before the flood threat intensifies. He emphasized that both villagers and the administration must remain fully prepared, as the flood danger approaches doorsteps every year during this season. The administration is maintaining continuous surveillance over the water levels and monitoring conditions closely.

Local residents living along the river banks are also keeping a watchful eye on the situation as water levels continue to climb. The district administration has placed itself on alert mode, urging people in riverside villages to exercise caution and remain vigilant as the flood threat looms over the region once again this monsoon season.
