Kanpur Dehat schools shut for classes 1-8 due to heavy rainfall

Schools across Kanpur Dehat district have been ordered to remain closed for students in classes 1 to 8 following heavy rainfall in the region. The district administration and the Basic Education Department announced the holiday for 1 September 2026 (Tuesday) to ensure the safety of students amid excessive downpour.

The official order was issued by District Basic Education Officer (BSA) Ashish Kumar Pandey after receiving approval from the District Magistrate. The decision has been taken keeping student welfare at the forefront as weather conditions posed potential risks to young children travelling to and from school.

The closure will apply to all types of educational institutions falling under the district's jurisdiction. This includes all council-run government schools, recognised institutions, aided schools, private schools, and those affiliated with the CBSE and ICSE boards. The order covers only students enrolled in classes 1 through 8, leaving the status of higher classes unspecified in the directive.

District education authorities have issued strict instructions to all Block Education Officers, head teachers, and school administrators to ensure complete compliance with the order. Officials have been directed to oversee that no school in the affected categories operates on the declared holiday.

Given the unpredictable nature of the weather, parents and students have been advised to stay in touch with their respective schools for any further updates or changes in schedule. The administration's swift action reflects growing concern over student safety during monsoon-related disruptions, a recurring challenge in the region during the rainy season.
