West Bengal allocates 10 acres for LTM data centre, inaugurates IT campus

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday inaugurated LTM's new IT campus 'Ananda Niketan' in New Town and announced the state will allocate an additional 10 acres for a data centre, two months after the Larsen & Toubro Group company requested the land.

The Chief Minister framed the facility's launch as part of his administration's push to employ the state's educated youth and called on skilled professionals who left West Bengal to return, promising jobs under the "double-engine government".

Campus marks regional expansion bet

The Global Delivery & AI Competency Center represents a key milestone in LTM's, formerly LTIMindtree, regional growth strategy focused on talent development and technology innovation, according to a company statement.

S.N. Subrahmanyan, chairman and managing director of Larsen & Toubro, said the Kolkata facility reflects the group's "continued commitment to investing in India's growth story" by expanding into high-potential regions and creating opportunities for local communities to support "innovation, technology-led progress and inclusive economic development".

Re-branding drive after BJP takeover

The inauguration comes as the BJP government, which assumed power in West Bengal in May 2026, works to reposition the state as an investment destination. Mr. Adhikari said on social media that West Bengal is "moving ahead with immense momentum" and cited the state's talent pool, upcoming infrastructure and new industry-friendly policies as factors cementing its position as a "premier tech and innovation hub".

The state government has promised incentives to industries and stated it will introduce a new industrial policy.
