Water tank built under Jal Jeevan Mission lies unused in Shravasti village

A water tank built in Dwarka Gaon Baag, a hamlet of Jamunaha village in Shravasti, has become a source of trouble for residents. Allegations have emerged that the operator supplies water only occasionally, affecting a population of around 15,000.

The water tank in Dwarka Gaon Baag serves as the sole source of water supply to Jamunaha Bazaar, Jamunaha village, Ranipurwa, Ramjanaki temple, Kali Maa temple, Gandhi Chowk, Bharat Milap Chowraha, Vasudev Chowraha, Holika Dahan Tiraha, Barka Fattepur, Nai Basti, Idgah, Dwarka Gaon, Vidhayak Purwa, Bhawaniyapur, Kashiram Purwa and other nearby towns and hamlets. The tank was constructed with the objective of providing clean drinking water to a population of approximately 15,000.

According to local residents, the tank was built under the Jal Jeevan Mission, but it is not being operated properly. Instead of providing regular water supply in the morning and evening, the operator supplies water at his own whim. This forces people to wander in search of water. Villagers say that they are compelled to rely on hand pumps both during the severe heat earlier and now during the rainy season. Women have to fetch water from distant locations. Despite repeated complaints, responsible officials are not paying attention.

Villagers have demanded that the administration ensure regular morning and evening water supply from the Dwarka Gaon water tank. Village head Asrar Alam stated that the operator is so negligent that he is not ready to listen. He does not even pick up the phone when complaints are made. Preparations are being made to replace him. He added that an agreement was made with an organization called BTAL for the operation and maintenance of water supply, but the organization is not doing the work.
