The demand for the reorganisation of Vindhya Pradesh gained momentum in Shahdol, where a programme was held at the statue of Vindhya Pradesh’s first Chief Minister, late Shri Shambhu Nath Shukla. Participants garlanded the statue and raised their voice for the development of the region, employment opportunities and self-governance.
The programme focused on the demand for the reorganisation of Vindhya Pradesh and the need to address issues affecting the region. The speakers present at the event said that several promises had been made when Vindhya Pradesh was merged with Madhya Pradesh in 1956.
According to the speakers, these promises included the overall development of the region, creation of employment, establishment of a capital and improvement in the standard of living. They said that these commitments had still not been fully implemented on the ground.
The speakers further said that the Vindhya region is rich in natural resources but has remained deprived of the development it deserves. They alleged that although Vindhya makes an important contribution to the state’s revenue, the region is not receiving facilities and development projects in proportion to that contribution.
They also said that young people in the region continue to face an employment crisis. The speakers called for special attention to education, health, industries and basic infrastructure. They said that these sectors need to be strengthened to address the concerns of the people of Vindhya.
During the programme, the speakers demanded that the government seriously consider the reorganisation of Vindhya Pradesh. They also urged the government to give priority to the interests of the people of the region.
The speakers warned that if justice was not done to Vindhya, the public movement would be expanded further. They said the demand would continue to be raised through public mobilisation.
The statue of the first Chief Minister was garlanded during the programme, and tribute was paid to him. Participants also took a pledge to create public awareness in support of the reorganisation of Vindhya Pradesh.
Those mainly present at the programme were Shubdeep Khare, Adv. S. K. Tiwari, Adv. K. D. Dwivedi, Adv. Ram Sushil Patel, Adv. Y. D. Shrivastava and V. K. Tiwari.
