A ₹1.31 crore facility designed to provide skill training and digital literacy to Adi-dravidar youth and other residents began operations at Munnur near Marakkanam in Villupuram district.
Minister for Social Justice Vanni Arasu inaugurated the village knowledge centre (VKC), which will be maintained by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Corporation. Villupuram Collector Sheik Abdul Rahman participated in the event.
Infrastructure and training facilities
The centre, funded under the NABARD scheme, consists of an administrative office, a skill training hall, a computer lab, a library, training rooms, an instructor's office, and toilets. It will provide skill training, digital literacy, and community-based learning to residents, especially Adi-dravidar youth, in villages.
The facility will also be used to conduct regular meetings by self-help groups. Officials of the corporation said the village knowledge centre would play a crucial role in enhancing access to education, skills training, and economic opportunities for the local community.
