Stray cattle have become a serious danger for commuters travelling on the Chandausi-Moradabad Highway in Baniyakhera village of Baniyakhera Block. Dozens of stray cows and bulls are reportedly seen moving in groups and sitting in the middle of the road, putting the lives of motorists and other road users at risk.
The situation has raised concerns about frequent accidents on this busy highway. A picture from the area shows a group of cattle crossing the highway together. Vehicle drivers can be seen being forced to stop their vehicles while putting their own lives at risk to avoid hitting the animals.
The Chandausi-Moradabad Highway sees continuous movement of heavy vehicles, according to local residents. Trucks, buses and cars moving at high speed often encounter cattle suddenly appearing on the road. Drivers are then forced to apply emergency brakes. In such situations, vehicles coming from behind can collide with them, the residents said.
Local residents also said that bike riders have been seriously injured several times after colliding with stray cattle. The presence of the animals in the middle of the highway has made travel risky for commuters, particularly when cattle move across the road in groups.
The problem is not limited to the highway. Stray cattle have also become a major concern for farmers inside the village. During the day, the animals remain on the highway, while at night they form groups in the fields and damage crops.
Farmers said they are being forced to stay awake through the night to protect their fields. The cattle enter the farmland and destroy crops, adding to the problems faced by farmers in the area.
The situation has also raised questions about the availability and functioning of cow shelters. Claims are being made about cow shelters being built at different places by the government. However, residents said that in the Baniyakhera area, the shelters are either already full or no campaign is being conducted to catch and remove the stray cattle from the roads.
Villagers alleged that complaints have been made several times to the village head and the block administration. They said that no concrete action has been taken so far to address the problem.
Residents and commuters have now demanded action from the district administration and the Animal Husbandry Department. They have asked that the stray cattle be removed from the Chandausi-Moradabad Highway and sent to cow shelters.
They have also demanded that regular campaigns be conducted to catch the animals, so that a major accident can be prevented.
