Legal dispute continues despite Rs 3.40 crore settlement

An attempt to resolve a legal dispute through mutual consent in a Lok Adalat has turned into a fresh legal battle. This happened even after the two parties reached a settlement of Rs 3.40 crore in five cheque-bounce cases.

The settlement was expected to bring the dispute to an end. However, the two sides have again come face to face over the money deposited in the court and the manner in which it should be dealt with.

Despite the agreement in the five cheque-bounce cases, a new dispute has emerged over the amount deposited during the legal proceedings. The complainant has now challenged the Lok Adalat’s order before the High Court.

Four petitions have been filed in the High Court in connection with the dispute. The petitions relate to the payment of the settlement amount and its disposal after the agreement reached between the parties.

The matter has raised questions over the terms of settlements involving large sums of money and the procedure for dealing with amounts deposited in court. The latest dispute has emerged even after both sides had agreed to settle the five cases through the Lok Adalat.

The case has also brought the focus back to the issue of whether a legal dispute is fully resolved when the parties agree to a settlement, but differences continue over the payment and handling of the money.

Both parties are now waiting for the High Court’s stand on the four petitions and the dispute over the Lok Adalat’s decision.
