Railway police seize 10 kg cannabis, arrest four in Ernakulam operation

The Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police have detained two alleged peddlers and two buyers after intercepting 10 kg of suspected ganja at Ernakulam Junction (South) railway station.

West Bengal Natives Held with Contraband

Buddha Debu Mondal, 22, and Suman Choudary, 22, both from Murshidabad in West Bengal, were nabbed with the suspected cannabis when they arrived at the station by the Shalimar-Thiruvananthapuram Express. The arrests took place on Friday (September 11) during a joint operation by the RPF and GRP.

Two local residents, Akash Babu, 22, and Athul Santhosh, 27, both from Chottanikkara, were apprehended for allegedly purchasing the contraband.

Odisha Link Under Investigation

"Based on preliminary investigation, it is suspected that the ganja was brought from Odisha," RPF-GRP officials said in a release. Authorities have announced plans to intensify searches at railway stations and inside trains in the coming days.

Separate MDMA Case Sees Fresh Arrest

In an unrelated development, Nedumbassery police arrested Abhinav Raj, 26, of Edakkad in Kozhikode, in connection with the seizure of 22.17 grams of suspected MDMA in July. Two people had already been arrested following the seizure of the contraband, which was allegedly being trafficked from Bengaluru in a car.

Raj is an accused in drug cases registered at Kozhikode Kasaba and Elathur police stations, the Ernakulam rural police said.
