PWD launches plan to fix chronic waterlogging in Shravasti's Jamuha area

The Public Works Department has launched swift action to address persistent waterlogging in the Jamuha area of Shravasti district. PWD Executive Engineer K.P. Mishra, accompanied by a team of officials from the district panchayat and the PWD, conducted on-site inspections of several waterlogged zones and assured residents of a permanent drainage solution soon. The initiative has sparked hope among local villagers who have been grappling with the problem.

According to the inspection team's findings, the drain constructed by the district panchayat in Virganj is higher than the road level and lacks proper water outlet arrangements. The drain has become clogged due to lack of cleaning, and in some places it has been completely filled in. As a result, rainwater as well as wastewater from homes and shops is accumulating on the roads instead of draining away.

The district panchayat will cut holes at 100-metre intervals along the 600-metre-long drain to allow road water to flow into it. Simultaneously, residents and shopkeepers will need to arrange for their household and commercial wastewater to be directed into the drain. Once the drainage work is completed, the Public Works Department will temporarily fill potholes with aggregate and other materials to prevent waterlogging.

K.P. Mishra, Executive Engineer of the Public Works Department, conducted the site inspection alongside a team of engineers including the Additional Chief Executive Officer of the district panchayat. A report on the findings will be prepared and submitted to the District Magistrate, after which further action will be taken on the DM's instructions.
