Police arrest two wanted suspects in Pratapgarh attempted murder case

Police in Pratapgarh have arrested two wanted suspects carrying cash rewards of Rs 10,000 each in connection with an attempted murder case. The arrest was made by the Raniganj police station team, which also recovered a stick from their possession based on their identification.

According to police, the incident took place on August 23 when a resident of village Sandora in Hariharganj was sitting at a tea shop in front of his room. In what appears to be a case driven by old enmity, several people arrived at the spot in a car. Meraj Ahmad Khan allegedly fired at the victim with a country-made pistol with the intent to kill, though the victim narrowly escaped. The attackers then assaulted him with sticks and iron rods. They are also accused of breaking into his room, attacking him there, and tearing his clothes. The victim sustained injuries to his hands and legs in the assault.

A case was registered at Raniganj police station following the incident, and police launched a search for the accused. Acting on a tip-off from an informer, a police team led by Inspector-in-charge Pradeep Kumar, under the supervision of Circle Officer Raniganj Prashant Raj and Additional Superintendent of Police East Alok Kumar, apprehended the two suspects from the Raniganj-Fatehpur highway. The operation was part of a drive being conducted under the direction of Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Meraj Ahmad Khan alias Merajuddin, 51, and Mohammad Aamil alias Aamir, 22, both residents of Thahipur under Raniganj police station jurisdiction. Police revealed that Meraj Ahmad has several previous cases registered against him, including attempted murder, Arms Act violations, and charges under the Gangster Act. The police team included Sub-Inspector Rajiv Kamal Pandey, Constable Ramkishan, Reserve Constable Avinash Singh, and Reserve Constable Vishnu Kumar Gupta.
