Police in Pratapgarh have arrested a wanted suspect in an attempted murder case and recovered an illegal firearm used in the attack. Nakul Dwivedi, 19, was taken into custody by a police team from Lalganj police station after he allegedly opened fire on a man with intent to kill in Veersinghpur village on August 23.

According to police, the incident occurred when several accused persons arrived at the complainant's house hurling abuses and threatening to kill him and his family members. When the complainant's father objected, he was also verbally abused. As the complainant came out after hearing the commotion, the suspects allegedly fired at him with an illegal weapon with intent to kill. The bullet narrowly missed, passing close to his ear. When local residents gathered at the spot, the accused fled after firing in the air.

A case was registered at Lalganj police station and a manhunt was launched for the suspects. Acting on directions from Pratapgarh Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar, a police team led by Station House Officer Alok Kumar arrested Dwivedi, son of Suresh Dwivedi and resident of Gobindpur Poore Aniruddh area. The operation was supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police Western Brijnandan Rai and Circle Officer Lalganj Rajeev Dwivedi.

Based on the suspect's disclosure, police recovered a 315 bore country-made pistol and one live cartridge. Following the recovery, sections of the Arms Act have also been added to the case. The police team that carried out the arrest included Sub-Inspector Deepak Kumar, Head Constable Zahid Hussain, and Constables Nitish Yadav, Srichandra, and Atiq Khan. Authorities are continuing their search for other suspects involved in the incident.
