One person killed in Ujjain road rage stabbing over honking dispute

A trivial roadside dispute over honking escalated into a fatal stabbing in Madhavnagar area of Ujjain late on the night of August 28, 2026, leaving one person dead and several others injured. Police have arrested four suspects within hours of the incident and are interrogating them to establish the sequence of events and identify other accomplices.

The victim, Yash Mittal, was travelling with his friend Amit and others in a car from Devasgate towards Laxminagar via Damdama when the confrontation occurred near the District Panchayat office at Damdama intersection. A group of motorcycle-borne youths blocked their path, triggering an argument over honking and right of way. What began as a verbal altercation quickly turned violent when the accused attacked the car with stones, shattering its windows, and then assaulted the occupants with knives and rocks. Yash Mittal sustained critical injuries in the attack and succumbed to his wounds, while others in the vehicle were also hurt.

Madhavnagar police station in-charge Inspector Gajendra Pachoriya immediately informed senior officers and formed a special team to track down the attackers. Working swiftly, the police team took four suspects into custody within a few hours of the crime. The arrested men have been identified as Vijay Singh Thakur, 29, Karan Gathiya, 21, Vishal Singh Thakur, 32, and Sagar Tanoriya, 31, all residents of the Damdama and Vikram University areas in Ujjain.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to locate additional suspects believed to have been involved in the attack. Police are examining whether the incident was a spontaneous flare-up or if there was any prior enmity between the groups. Legal proceedings are underway, and further interrogation of the arrested accused is expected to shed light on the roles played by each individual in the fatal assault.
