Mother, daughter killed as rain brings down mud house in Kanpur Dehat

Heavy rain continuing for the past 48 hours in Kanpur Dehat has triggered a fatal house collapse, with a mother and her daughter dying after a mud house came down in Naval Nivada village under the Shivli Kotwali area.

According to the information available, the district has been witnessing torrential rain for the last 48 hours, and the downpour has begun causing damage. The rain has increased the danger for old, weak and mud houses in the area. The latest incident was reported from Naval Nivada village, where a mud house suddenly collapsed due to the rain.

At the time of the incident, the mother and daughter were sleeping inside a room of the mud house. They were trapped under the debris after the structure gave way. Both died on the spot in the tragic accident.

According to information, the mother and daughter, residents of Naval Nivada village, were sleeping in their room at night when the roof of the mud house collapsed. The continuous heavy rain had caused dampness in the structure, and the weight of the water led to the roof suddenly caving in.

After hearing a loud sound and cries for help, nearby villagers rushed to the spot. They immediately informed the police and the administration about the collapse.

Soon after receiving the information, a police team and administrative officials reached the spot. Relief and rescue work was started, and with the help of villagers, the debris was removed. However, by then it was too late. The mother and daughter buried under the debris had already died.

Police took both bodies into custody and sent them for post-mortem. After the incident, the family members were inconsolable, and there was an atmosphere of mourning across the village.

Administrative officials who reached the spot after being informed of the incident inspected the situation. They have also started assessing the damage so that financial assistance can be provided as per rules.

With continuous rain in the district, the possibility of damage to mud houses and old houses has increased significantly. The administration has appealed to villagers to remain alert and to stay away from dilapidated houses. People have been asked to take shelter at safer places instead of remaining in weak structures during the ongoing rain.
