Man arrested in Pratapgarh with 1.1 kg ganja during anti-narcotics drive

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in Pratapgarh district for allegedly smuggling ganja, with police recovering 1.1 kilograms of the contraband from his possession. The arrest was made as part of "Operation Prahar," an ongoing anti-narcotics drive being conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar.

Sanjay Saroj, son of Kamlesh Saroj and a resident of Anawa village under Maheshganj police station jurisdiction, was apprehended by Baghray police during routine checks of suspicious persons and vehicles. The arrest took place near an overbridge on the Dihwa Bihar-Shakardaha road within the Baghray police station area. Police sources confirmed that the seized cannabis was being illegally transported for sale.

A case has been registered at Baghray police station under FIR number 225/2025, invoking sections 8 and 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (West) Brijnandan Rai and Circle Officer (Sadar) Manoj Kumar Singh Raghuvanshi, with Station House Officer Shravan Kumar leading the police team on the ground.

The arrest team comprised Sub-Inspector Satyam Tiwari, Sub-Inspector Dinesh Kumar, Constable Manvendra Singh, Reserve Constable Rajneesh Kumar, and Reserve Constable Dhanesh Saroj. According to police officials, the crackdown on individuals involved in drug trafficking and sale will continue in the coming days.

The operation reflects intensified efforts by Pratapgarh police to curb the circulation of illegal narcotics in the district. Authorities have vowed to maintain strict vigilance and take stringent action against those found engaged in the drug trade, which poses a serious threat to public health and social order.
