IISc's FSID sets sights on 1,000 industry projects by 2030

The Foundation for Science, Innovation and Development (FSID), the single-window interface to the Indian Institute of Science's deep science and deep-tech capabilities, has set itself an ambitious target: 1,000 industry projects and a portfolio of 300 deep-tech start-ups by 2030.

New leadership to drive transformation

The announcement came as FSID unveiled a new governance model and appointed Omprakash Subbarao as its first industry leader CEO, marking what the organization described as a new phase in its journey to build a self-sustaining Section 8 company. The targets were announced at an event held on the IISc campus.

Subbarao said the world of research, innovation and technology translation was evolving rapidly, as were the expectations of industry, government and other external stakeholders. "To enable the FSID to respond to these changing requirements with greater agility, professionalism and scale, we are strengthening its governance and leadership structure," he stated.

Open incubation and industry partnerships

FSID will position itself as a leading platform connecting science, industry and entrepreneurship through an open, domain-agnostic approach to incubation and stronger industry partnerships, with an impact extending beyond India, the organization stated.

Built on two pillars, Innovation and Incubation, the foundation operates under the vision 'Built on Science, Scaled for the World,' Subbarao explained. "Our ambition is to deepen engagement with multinational corporations, Indian corporates and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, while creating stronger pathways for science and research to translate into real-world impact," he added.

To ensure effective linkage with IISc, Suryasarthy Bose will function as professor in-charge, providing institutional oversight and serving as the principal interface between FSID and the institute.
