Hong Kong police dismantle major methamphetamine lab, seize 23 million dollars

Hong Kong police have dismantled a large-scale methamphetamine production facility in Fanling, recovering HK$23 million (US$3 million) worth of suspected Ice and taking three people into custody.

Officers arrested two men and a woman, aged between 49 and 56, during the operation that unfolded on Thursday night. The arrests began when police in Fanling intercepted one of the male suspects who was carrying a two-way permit, a document issued by mainland Chinese authorities that allows residents to travel to Hong Kong.

Factory Uncovered After Initial Arrest

Following the interception, investigators traced the operation to a unit in Fanling where they discovered the drug manufacturing facility, according to Senior Inspector Chan Lik-ho of the force's narcotics bureau. The factory is believed to have been operational for three to four days before police moved in.

The force announced the bust publicly on Saturday. The HK$23 million haul represents one of the larger methamphetamine seizures in recent operations in northern Hong Kong.

Authorities have not disclosed further details about the suspects' backgrounds or whether additional arrests are expected in connection with the operation.
