Food Safety Department seizes adulterated sweets, paneer ahead of Rakshabandhan

The Food Safety Department has launched a major crackdown on adulterated food products in Noida and Greater Noida ahead of Rakshabandhan, seizing 100 kilograms of boondi and destroying 200 kilograms of paneer found to be contaminated or suspected of adulteration. The action comes as part of intensified efforts to protect consumers during the festive season when demand for sweets and dairy products peaks.

During the enforcement drive, officials seized boondi containing excessive artificial colors after finding it adulterated on prima facie examination. The Food Safety Department conducted inspections at multiple locations including Jewar Toll Plaza, DND Flyover, and the Dadri area, focusing particularly on paneer quality. Nearly 200 kilograms of paneer were destroyed on suspicion of being adulterated and contaminated, posing potential health risks to consumers.

The department has sent nine food product samples to the laboratory for detailed testing and analysis. The samples will undergo thorough examination to determine the extent of adulteration and identify harmful substances that may have been mixed into these commonly consumed items. Laboratory results will form the basis for further legal action against violators.

Food safety officials have urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing sweets and paneer ahead of Rakshabandhan. Shoppers are advised to buy from reputed vendors, check for proper packaging and labeling, and avoid products with unnaturally bright colors or suspicious appearance. The crackdown has revealed that large quantities of fake boondi and paneer were being sold in Noida and Greater Noida markets.

The Food Safety Department's action demonstrates the authorities' commitment to ensuring food quality during festivals when adulteration typically increases. Consumers have been warned to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food products to the department. Further inspections are expected to continue in the run-up to Rakshabandhan to prevent adulterated items from reaching the market.
