Raebareli Food Safety Destroys 350kg Adulterated Sweets Ahead of Raksha Bandhan

The Food Safety Department in Raebareli has intensified its crackdown on adulterated food products ahead of Raksha Bandhan, conducting raids across multiple locations and destroying large quantities of contaminated sweets and dairy items. The operation targeted several sweet shops in the Sareni and Bachhrawan police station areas, where inspectors uncovered serious violations of food safety standards.

In Bhojpur village, the department seized and destroyed approximately 150 kilograms of adulterated chamcham from Jhullan Sweets House. The action highlights the severity of the contamination problem during the festive season when demand for sweets traditionally spikes. At Chauhan Sweet House, officials confiscated and destroyed 75 kilograms of adulterated khoya and 25 kilograms of chhena, both essential ingredients in Indian sweets.

The enforcement drive extended to Bachhrawan, where raids on establishments run by Virendra Kumar and another sweet manufacturing unit revealed further violations. Inspectors found and destroyed one quintal each of chhena and kala jamun at these locations, raising concerns about the widespread nature of food adulteration in the district.

The timing of this operation is significant, as Raksha Bandhan is a major festival when families exchange sweets as part of traditional celebrations. The consumption of adulterated sweets poses serious health risks, particularly during festival seasons when production and sales increase dramatically. Contaminated khoya and dairy products can cause food poisoning and other health complications.

Food safety officials stated that departmental proceedings against the violating establishments are currently ongoing. The crackdown sends a strong message to food businesses about the consequences of compromising public health. Authorities are expected to continue surveillance and enforcement activities to ensure safe food supplies during the festival period, protecting consumers from substandard and potentially harmful products.
