Firozabad headmistress suspended over financial irregularities and tampering allegations

In a significant development, Sheetla Devi, the headmistress of Upper Primary School Jarela in Firozabad’s Araon block, has been suspended following allegations of financial irregularities and discrepancies in school records. Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Anil Kumar confirmed the suspension, citing serious lapses and failure to respond to a show-cause notice within the stipulated timeframe.

The issue came to light on July 6 when assistant teachers, Shiksha Mitras, and a school attendant filed a complaint against Sheetla Devi during a "Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas" event. The complaint accused her of tampering with school records, misusing composite grants, neglecting basic facilities, and preparing mid-day meals on traditional stoves instead of gas cylinders. Following these allegations, the BSA ordered a departmental inquiry, which was conducted by Jasarana block education officer Bhupendra Singh.

During the investigation, conducted on July 10, multiple discrepancies were uncovered. The admission register showed instances of overwriting and alterations in students' birth dates and other details. Additionally, payment orders for the financial year 2025-26—specifically orders numbered 5, 6, 7, and 9—were found to lack the chairman's signature, raising further concerns. Sheetla Devi was also accused of withholding records, removing students' names, and making adverse remarks on transfer certificates.

Despite being given until August 3 to provide an explanation, Sheetla Devi failed to respond, leading to her suspension. The move underscores the education department’s commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability in school administration. Authorities have stated that further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.

This suspension serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to administrative and financial protocols in schools, ensuring that students receive the facilities and support they are entitled to.
