Divisional Commissioner of Devipatan, Durga Shakti Nagpal, has initiated steps to strengthen road connectivity in the Devipatan and Ayodhya divisions. She has sought the renewal of the Ayodhya, Gonda, Balrampur section of National Highway No. 330 and the widening of a 19.200-kilometre stretch of State Highway No. 30 in Gonda district.

The Divisional Commissioner has written to the Government of India, the Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department, Uttar Pradesh, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India. Through these letters, she has requested the necessary action for the renewal and widening of the identified roads.

The proposal includes widening the Gonda, Bahraich, Faizabad, Azamgarh road to 10 metres. It also includes the renewal of the Ayodhya, Gonda, Balrampur section of NH-330 and widening the 19.200-kilometre portion of State Highway-30 from 7 metres to 10 metres.

The initiative has been taken after considering the present condition of the two important roads, the increasing pressure of traffic and the transport needs of the public. The proposed works are expected to improve connectivity between different districts and make travel easier for passengers, students, patients and people involved in business and other commercial activities.

The renewal of NH-330 is a key part of the proposal. The Ayodhya, Gonda, Balrampur section of National Highway No. 330 is an important route for the region. Its last major renewal was carried out in 2020-21.

Although patchwork has been carried out on the route from time to time after that work, the road surface has become uneven. As a result, vehicle drivers and daily commuters have been facing difficulties while travelling on the route.

In view of the present condition of the road, proper renewal and the required maintenance work are considered necessary. An estimate for a Performance Based Maintenance Contract, or PBMC, for this route has already been submitted to the concerned office.

Durga Shakti Nagpal has drawn the attention of the concerned senior officials to the matter and requested necessary action. The purpose is to improve the condition of the road and provide better transport facilities to people using the Ayodhya, Gonda, Balrampur route.

The second major proposal concerns State Highway-30 in Gonda district. The Gonda, Bahraich, Faizabad, Azamgarh road, identified as State Highway No. 30, has a 19.200-kilometre stretch between chainage 42.900 and 62.100.

This entire stretch is currently 7 metres wide. The proposal is to increase its width to 10 metres. The widening of the related portion of this road in Bahraich district has already been completed. Widening the remaining portion in Gonda district would bring uniformity to the width of the route and could make movement more convenient.

State Highway-30 is an important connecting road for the Gonda Sadar and Katra Bazar Assembly constituencies, as well as the surrounding areas. Citizens of Bahraich, Shravasti and Ayodhya regularly use this route for travel.

The road also remains under traffic pressure because heavy vehicles are continuously used for transporting construction materials. This movement adds to the volume of traffic on the route and makes the proposed widening important for smoother movement.

Several important public institutions are located around the road. These include Tehsil Gonda Sadar, Gonda Municipality, various educational institutions, health centres and Police Station Kotwali. In view of these facilities and the regular movement of people, widening the road is considered important for better traffic management, easier travel and improved road safety.

The proposed widening work on State Highway No. 30 has already been approved by the Expenditure Finance Committee on 17 September 2026. The project now requires the necessary administrative and financial approvals before it can be implemented.

The Divisional Commissioner has started correspondence at the concerned levels to move the process forward. The letters seek action for obtaining the approvals required to take the proposed work to the implementation stage.

The broader objective of Durga Shakti Nagpal’s initiative is to improve the condition of major roads, make traffic movement easier and safer, and strengthen road connectivity between the Devipatan and Ayodhya divisions.

Completion of the proposed works is expected to make travel more convenient for the public. The benefits are expected to extend to education, healthcare, trade, transport and other economic activities connected with the areas served by these roads.

Improved road infrastructure is also expected to support regional development and provide citizens with safer and more convenient transport facilities. Better connectivity between the districts of the Devipatan and Ayodhya divisions could help daily travellers, students, patients and people associated with business and commercial activities.

The proposed renewal and widening works are therefore aimed at addressing the condition of the two important routes as well as the traffic needs of the areas around them. Once the required approvals and subsequent work are completed, the routes are expected to provide easier movement and support the social and economic development of the region.
