Banda police bust illegal liquor unit, arrest three ahead of Raksha Bandhan

Police in Banda district have arrested three people for illegally manufacturing country liquor and destroyed a significant quantity of raw materials at the production site. The accused were apprehended by Kotwali Nagar police station personnel during an intensive checking drive ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival.

Acting on specific intelligence received during routine patrolling, officers raided a house belonging to one Rambali in Cantonment Dera Majra Kanwara area. Police recovered 12 litres of illicitly distilled country liquor along with equipment used for its production. Approximately 60 kilograms of lahan, the fermented wash used as raw material for distilling liquor, was also seized and destroyed on the spot to prevent further illegal manufacturing.

The operation was carried out under the direction of Banda Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal as part of an ongoing crackdown against illegal liquor production and sale in the district. The intensive checking campaign was specifically intensified ahead of Raksha Bandhan to curb the availability of illicit alcohol during the festive period.

Kotwali Nagar police acted swiftly upon receiving information that illegal country liquor was being manufactured at the location. The three accused were caught red-handed in the act of distilling the liquor and were immediately taken into custody. The destruction of the substantial quantity of lahan at the site ensured that the illegal operation could not resume quickly.

Illegal liquor production remains a persistent challenge for law enforcement agencies across Uttar Pradesh, often leading to health hazards and economic losses. The Banda police have stepped up surveillance and enforcement activities to tackle such operations, particularly during festival seasons when demand typically rises.
