Two brothers from Aligarh, aged 13 and 7, set out on bicycles for Jaunpur, about 700 kilometres away, fearing they would be scolded by their parents. The children had told their family that they were going for tuition, but instead began cycling towards their grandparents’ home in Jaunpur. They were later spotted on a highway and safely rescued by the Sikandra Rao police.
The boys were identified as 13-year-old Abhinav Mishra, a Class 6 student, and 7-year-old Akshat, who studies in Class 3. They are the sons of engineer Abhishek Mishra and Khushboo Mishra, who live in the Quarsi police station area of Aligarh.
According to the information available, Abhinav studies in Class 6 at Saints Jones School, while Akshat is a Class 3 student. After returning home from school on Saturday, the children were scolded by their mother over some money kept in the house that could not be found and a discussion about buying a car with that money.
The brothers were worried that their father would also scold them when he returned home in the evening. In that fear, both of them left home at around 3 pm, telling the family that they were going to tuition. However, instead of going to their tuition classes, they took their bicycles and started travelling towards Jaunpur.
The two children continued cycling until they reached the highway. A truck driver noticed them riding bicycles there and became suspicious. He immediately informed the Sikandra Rao Kotwali police about the children.
After receiving the information, the police reached the area and found the brothers near the flyover close to Sardala bridge on Kasganj Road. The children were taken safely into police protection and brought to the police station at around 8 pm.
At the station, the police gave the brothers tea and snacks. The children were spoken to with affection and were counselled. The police then informed their family about their safe recovery.
The parents had been extremely worried after the children left home. When they received the information that both boys were safe, they heaved a sigh of relief. At around 9:30 pm, their father reached the police station and took both children back to Aligarh.
The alertness of the truck driver and the prompt action by the police ensured that the two brothers were safely reunited with their family. The incident also serves as a reminder for parents that, while disciplining children, it is important to understand their feelings and speak to them with affection.
