Youth arrested in Banda for illegal firearm possession during police patrol

A youth was arrested in Banda for possession of an illegal firearm and live cartridges, police said on Tuesday. Acting on a tip-off, Naraini police took the suspect into custody during a late-evening patrol on August 8. The accused was identified as Alok, son of Vinod, a resident of Ballan village in Atarra, Banda district.

Under the ongoing campaign against illegal weapons, the police recovered a 315-bore country-made pistol and two live cartridges from Alok’s possession. Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal has been leading efforts to crack down on crime and curb the circulation of unauthorized firearms in the region.

According to officials, the arrest took place on the Behadpurwa-Naraini road after a local informant alerted the police about a man roaming the area with a firearm. A search of the suspect confirmed the presence of the illegal weapon and ammunition. Following the arrest, Alok was sent to court for further legal proceedings.

The operation is part of a broader strategy by Banda police to enhance public safety and tackle the growing menace of illegal arms in the district. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities in their area.
