Woman alleges mother-in-law evicted her from home after husband's death

A property dispute and alleged eviction case has emerged from Muzzafarnagar district, where Sudha Tyagi has leveled serious allegations against her mother-in-law Hukmawati and other family members. At a press conference, Sudha claimed she was thrown out of her home and deprived of property rights following the deaths of her husband and only son. She has demanded an impartial investigation, protection, and justice from the local administration.

According to Sudha Tyagi, her husband Shiv Kumar Tyagi passed away in 2009, while their only son Ashutosh Tyagi died in 2017. She alleges that after these tragedies, her mother-in-law Hukmawati began mistreating her and harassing her over property matters. Sudha claims she was deliberately kept in the dark about her rightful share in the family assets and was systematically pushed out of her own home.

Sudha has made specific allegations dating back to 1998, when she says her mother-in-law made her sign certain documents. She claims she was told at the time that these papers were related to pension benefits that would come in her name. However, Sudha alleges that she later discovered the true nature of these documents, suggesting they may have been used to transfer or manipulate property ownership without her informed consent.

The case highlights the vulnerability faced by widows in property disputes within joint families. Sudha Tyagi has now approached authorities and the media seeking intervention in what she describes as a prolonged pattern of exploitation and dispossession. The matter underscores ongoing concerns about women's property rights and the legal protections available to them, particularly after the loss of immediate male family members.
