UP Women's Commission hears sixteen harassment cases, directs swift action

Pratibha Kushwaha, a member of the Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission, conducted a public hearing at the Vikas Bhavan auditorium in Pratapgarh to address cases of women's harassment and grievances. During the hearing, sixteen women registered complaints ranging from domestic violence and dowry harassment to workplace exploitation, property disputes, mental torture, and denial of pension and housing scheme benefits. The commission member listened to each grievance seriously and instructed concerned officials to ensure time-bound, impartial, and effective resolution of all cases.

Addressing the complainants, Kushwaha assured them that the Women's Commission is fully committed to delivering justice and empowering women. She directed administrative and police officials to resolve every complaint in a timely and fair manner, emphasizing that follow-up action must be ensured even after initial resolution and that complainants should be kept informed about progress. She made it clear that negligence or indifference at any level in cases related to women's harassment would not be tolerated, stating that providing justice, security, and dignity to women is the administration's primary responsibility.

Speaking directly to women, Kushwaha encouraged victims of harassment not to be afraid, reminding them that the law stands with women and the commission is ready to help every aggrieved woman. She informed them about their legal rights and urged them to remain aware and vigilant about their entitlements. She clarified that the commission's objective extends beyond merely hearing complaints to actually delivering justice to victims.

Following the public hearing, the commission member reviewed women's safety, welfare issues, and related matters in a meeting with officials from various departments. She stressed the urgent need for sensitive and swift action in cases involving women and instructed that such matters be resolved on a priority basis. District Programme Officer Jyoti Shakya, District Probation Officer Ran Bahadur Verma, MLA Sadar representative Arun Kumar Maurya, and officials from various departments attended the meeting. Kushwaha also directed officials to ensure that benefits of various government welfare schemes reach eligible women and needy beneficiaries in a time-bound manner.
