Two wanted criminals with ₹50,000 bounty each arrested in Shravasti encounter

Two wanted criminals carrying rewards of ₹50,000 each were arrested following a police encounter in Shravasti district. One of the accused sustained a gunshot injury during the exchange of fire while the other was caught by the police team.

The incident took place on September 6, 2026, between approximately 9:30 pm and 9:45 pm on the road leading from Anta Tiraha towards the forest area under Kotwali Bhinga police station jurisdiction. Police had received information about the presence of two wanted criminals in the area.

A team from Kotwali Bhinga police station and the SOG (Special Operations Group) rushed to the spot. Upon seeing the police team, the criminals fired a total of six rounds at the officers with the intent to kill. During the retaliatory firing by police, one of the accused identified as Girish Baheliya was injured after a bullet hit his leg. Sub-Inspector Anurag Singh was also injured while trying to take cover during the firing. The second accused, Shiv Kumar Jaiswal, was arrested.

Girish Baheliya has approximately 30 or more criminal cases registered against him and carried a reward of ₹50,000. Shiv Kumar Jaiswal has approximately 23 or more cases registered against him and also carried a reward of ₹50,000. Both accused were wanted in cases of robbery, theft, Arms Act violations, NDPS Act violations and various other crimes. They were wanted in connection with recent robberies and thefts at Kotwali Bhinga, Sirsia police station and Sonwa police station in Shravasti district.

Police recovered two country-made illegal pistols, cartridges, one Pulsar motorcycle, cash and other items from the possession of the accused.

The injured accused Girish Baheliya was brought to CHC Bhinga for treatment where his condition has been reported as stable. Further legal action is being taken against the accused.
