Telangana proposes 10 new degree colleges for minority education

The Telangana government has proposed the establishment of 10 new degree colleges for minority students, aiming to enhance higher education opportunities for boys and girls from these communities. Minister for Minorities Welfare Mohammed Azharuddin has sought approval for this initiative, which is expected to benefit students graduating from junior colleges run by the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMREIS).

Highlighting the need for these colleges, Azharuddin noted that while TMREIS provides intermediate education through its residential institutions, many students face challenges in pursuing graduation due to a lack of nearby degree colleges. The proposed institutions aim to bridge this gap and provide a seamless transition for students seeking higher education.

In a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, Azharuddin also shared updates on other developments in the minority education sector. He announced that 20 newly constructed Minority Residential School buildings are ready for inauguration, marking another step towards improving educational infrastructure for minority communities in the state.

The Minister further emphasized the need for financial support to sustain ongoing projects. He requested the immediate release of ₹130 crore to clear pending bills related to various initiatives under the Minority Welfare Department. These funds are expected to accelerate the completion of development works and strengthen existing institutions.

This proposal underscores the Telangana government’s commitment to advancing educational opportunities for minority communities, addressing long-standing gaps in access to higher education. If approved, the new degree colleges could play a pivotal role in empowering students and fostering inclusive development across the state.
