180 Doctors, Senior Residents Deputed to TIMS Sanathnagar, Inauguration Date Remains Uncertain

Hyderabad: In a significant move towards operationalising the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Sanathnagar, the State Health Department has deputed 180 doctors and senior residents from various government hospitals across Telangana. The deployment orders, issued by the Director of Medical Education (DME) on June 17, instructed the personnel to report to TIMS on June 19.

The directors, principals, and superintendents of the respective institutions have been directed to relieve the deputed staff by June 18 to ensure their timely joining at TIMS. The personnel are expected to coordinate with Dr. Mahaboob Khan, who has been appointed as the nodal officer for the facility, and a compliance report will subsequently be submitted to the DME.

Among the 180 medical professionals, 98 consultants and faculty members have been drawn from prominent institutions such as Osmania General Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, Niloufer Hospital, Government General Chest Hospital, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Institute of Mental Health, MNJ Institute of Oncology and Regional Cancer Centre, and various Government Medical Colleges across the state.

The specialists represent a wide range of medical departments, including cardiology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, neurosurgery, general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, anaesthesia, radiology, pathology, microbiology, psychiatry, ENT, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, and radiation oncology. Additionally, 82 junior consultants and senior residents have been deployed to bolster the hospital’s workforce.

Despite this progress, there remains no clarity on the official inauguration date of TIMS, Sanathnagar. The facility, which began its trial run approximately 45 days ago, has seen several tentative inauguration dates proposed by the Health Ministry, none of which materialised. Initially, the hospital was expected to be inaugurated on Ugadi (March 19), followed by Telangana Formation Day on June 2, and later June 11 based on the Chief Minister’s schedule. However, none of these dates came to fruition.

The uncertainty surrounding the inauguration continues to overshadow the significant strides made in staffing and preparation for the hospital’s operations.
