Sunken road and faulty drainage leave Shravasti village waterlogged, children at risk

Poor planning and negligence in development work at Gram Panchayat Kathara Mafi in Shravasti district's Jamunha area have left villagers struggling with a dangerous infrastructure failure. A drainage system was constructed at a higher level than the main road, which was left sunken, creating severe waterlogging and safety hazards for residents.

The sunken road and improper water drainage arrangements have caused dirty water to accumulate on the path, making it extremely difficult for villagers to walk through. The entire route remains filled with water and mud.

With the sunken road submerged under water, potholes become invisible, creating a constant risk of pedestrians and two-wheeler riders slipping and falling.

Schoolchildren are bearing the brunt of this mismanagement. Every day, students are forced to navigate through the muddy, waterlogged path on their way to school. Children frequently slip and fall in the water and mud, resulting in damaged clothes and bags, and posing a risk of injury.

The problematic construction has been attributed to negligence by the Pradhan and responsible officials, who failed to ensure proper coordination between the drainage construction and road maintenance work.

An official acknowledged the issue, stating that the matter has come to their attention. A technical team is being sent to Gram Panchayat Kathara Mafi to inspect the levels of the drain and road. The official said that after an on-site inspection, road repairs and proper water drainage will be arranged as soon as possible so that villagers and schoolchildren face no difficulty in commuting.
