Speeding car kills cyclist in Shravasti, driver arrested after fleeing scene

A speeding Swift car ran over a cyclist in Shravasti district on Thursday evening, killing him on the spot. The victim, identified as thirty-year-old Rizwan son of Rahees, was a resident of Bahorwa and was returning home on his bicycle after selling cosmetic goods in nearby villages when the accident occurred around half past five in the evening.

The incident took place near Banjaran Purwa in the Hardattnagar Girant police station area. Rizwan had spent the day cycling through surrounding villages, selling cosmetic items, and was on his way back to his home in Bahorwa when the Swift car, coming from Jamunha and heading toward Bahraich, struck his bicycle. The impact threw Rizwan onto the road and he died at the scene.

Local residents gathered at the spot soon after the accident. According to people in the area, the car driver fled the scene with the vehicle. The car was later intercepted and caught near Tulsipur. Police have taken the vehicle into custody and detained the driver.

Following news of the accident, Rizwan's family members reached the Badla Chauraha police outpost. They placed the body in front of the outpost and began a protest, demanding action against the driver responsible for the accident and calling for an impartial investigation into the case.

Police from two stations arrived at the scene after receiving information about the protest. Circle Officer Alok Singh also reached the spot and spoke with the family members. Police officials attempted to bring the situation under control by assuring the relatives that action would be taken.

Police are currently investigating the causes of the accident and examining the role of the driver. Authorities are also working to gather information regarding the post-mortem examination and the filing of a case in the matter. The deceased had been earning his livelihood by selling cosmetic products on his bicycle in villages around the area.
