Pratapgarh police arrest wanted gangster in crackdown operation

Pratapgarh rural police have arrested a wanted accused in a case registered under the Gangster Act. The accused, identified as Bankelal alias Ramesh Kumar, 27, son of late Mewalal and resident of village Kadipur Pure Hiravan, was apprehended near Khar border at Ghatampur Pidiyan Ka Purwa. The arrest was made following a tip-off from an informer during routine checking operations in the area.

The police action was carried out under the ongoing crackdown against criminals being conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar. Additional Superintendent of Police East Alok Kumar and Circle Officer City Ashutosh Mishra oversaw the operation, which was led by Station House Officer Kotwali Dehat Pushpraj Singh. Sub-Inspector Akhilesh Pratap, along with constables Raviprakash Yadav and Vikas Jaiswal, formed part of the team that conducted the arrest while searching for wanted accused and checking suspicious persons in the jurisdiction.

According to police records, case number 233/2026 has been registered against the arrested accused under Sections 2/3 of the Uttar Pradesh Gangster Act at Kotwali Dehat police station. Multiple other cases under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have also been registered against him at the same police station during 2025. The arrest is part of a sustained campaign by the district police to crack down on criminal elements operating in the region.

Police have initiated necessary legal proceedings against the accused following his arrest. The operation reflects the department's continued efforts to bring wanted criminals to justice and maintain law and order in the district.
