Pratapgarh police arrest suspect, recover three stolen e-rickshaw batteries in 24 hours

Pratapgarh police have cracked an e-rickshaw battery theft case within 24 hours and arrested the main suspect, recovering all three stolen batteries. The swift action by Manikpur police station, working with the surveillance cell, led to the arrest of Sonu Sonkar, son of Rambaboo Sonkar, a resident of Mamrakhpur Mirghadwa under Manikpur police jurisdiction.

According to police, a case was registered at Manikpur police station following a complaint about the theft of e-rickshaw batteries. During investigation, Sonu Sonkar's name emerged as the prime suspect. Police allege that he conspired with his accomplice Rohan Kumar to steal the batteries from a red e-rickshaw by taking it to an orchard and removing the power units.

On August 30, 2026, police apprehended Sonu Sonkar near a dirt road leading to Shahabad Murgi Farm. Acting on his information, officers recovered three Eastman company batteries in blue and yellow colours. Following the recovery, additional sections have been added to the case. Investigation revealed that the arrested accused has a lengthy criminal history with multiple cases registered against him at Manikpur, Sandila, Saini, and Kadadham police stations. Given his criminal record, history sheet number 147A has also been opened against him.

The operation was conducted under the direction of Pratapgarh Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar and supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police West Brijnandan Rai and Circle Officer Kunda Shiv Narayan Vais. The police team included Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Singh along with constables Ramdev Gautam, Bhimrao, Darvesh Kumar, Aryan Kumar, Aman Yadav, and woman constable Nidhi Yadav. The quick resolution highlights effective coordination between local police and surveillance units in tackling property crimes.
