Muzaffarnagar Excise Department intensifies crackdown on illegal liquor sales and overcharging

The Excise Department in Muzaffarnagar has launched an intensive campaign against illegal liquor sales, overrating and violation of norms under the direction of the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police. The department is conducting sustained operations across the district to effectively curb such irregularities.

Excise inspectors recently carried out thorough inspections of liquor shops throughout the district and reviewed the arrangements. During the inspection, they ensured 100 per cent sale of liquor through POS machines and conducted physical verification of stock available at the shops against the stock register. To ascertain the actual situation regarding whether liquor was being sold at prescribed rates or not, the department also conducted confidential test purchases.

The excise department team checked the functioning of CCTV cameras installed at the shops and directed the operators to keep the cameras continuously operational. QR codes on bottles randomly picked from the stock were verified through the departmental app. Shop operators were also instructed to display 100 ml liquor of 42.8 per cent proof in the display section at country liquor shops and make this information available to customers.

The excise department team also conducted intensive checks at dhabas located in the district. Dhaba operators were given strict instructions not to serve any kind of illegal intoxicating substances or materials.

This proactive approach by the excise department is not only an important step towards strengthening the revenue system but also a commendable effort to ensure transparency in liquor sales and protect consumer interests. The continuous monitoring by the department through arrangements such as POS machines, CCTV, QR code verification and confidential test purchases demonstrates that the department is completely serious about violations of rules.
