Monsoon Covers 16 States, Expected in Mumbai Within 48 Hours

The monsoon has advanced to 16 states within six days, entering West Bengal on Tuesday. It is currently about 150 km from Mumbai and is expected to reach the city within 48 hours. By next week, it may extend to Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Odisha. Pre-monsoon activity has brought relief from heat in several plains, with thunderstorms and heavy rains accompanied by winds of 50-60 kmph in some areas.

In Uttar Pradesh, strong winds uprooted trees in Unnao on Tuesday, leading to the death of a 70-year-old man who was trapped under a fallen tree. Kerala and Karnataka have experienced continuous rainfall for the past four days, causing waterlogging in Bengaluru and Belagavi, where vehicles were seen being swept away.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh continue to face intense heat, with heatwave alerts issued for several districts. On Monday, Sri Ganganagar recorded the highest temperature in the country at 45.6°C. The IMD has warned of rising temperatures in eight states until June 10.

In Madhya Pradesh, an alert for thunderstorms and rain has been issued for 18 districts, including Jabalpur and Barwani. Heatwave warnings are in place for five districts, including Bhind and Datia, on June 10 and 11. The monsoon is expected to arrive in the state between June 15 and 18.

Other states, including Bihar and Uttarakhand, are also experiencing varying weather conditions. Bihar's Rohtas recorded the highest temperature at 43.4°C on Monday, while 24 districts face thunderstorm alerts. In Uttarakhand, eight districts, including Uttarkashi and Rudraprayag, are likely to see rain today.
