Man dies after house collapses in UP downpour, villagers blame emergency response delay

A 25-year-old man died after a dilapidated house collapsed on him during heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh's Ghatampur area. Amit Kumar, son of the late Nanka Prasad, was trapped under the debris when his house in Mohanpur village suddenly crumbled amid continuous downpour.

Villagers rushed to the scene after hearing the loud crash and immediately began rescue operations without waiting for official help. Despite heavy rain and scattered rubble all around, local residents risked their own lives to clear the debris and pull Amit out. He was critically injured and rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors made efforts to save him, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The news plunged his family into deep grief.

Villagers have alleged serious lapses in emergency response. According to local residents, multiple calls were made to the emergency helpline 112 immediately after the collapse, requesting police assistance and medical aid. However, neither an ambulance nor any rescue team arrived at the site for nearly two hours despite repeated calls. Left with no choice, villagers themselves carried out the rescue operation and transported Amit to the hospital. Residents claim that timely government intervention could have saved his life through quicker medical attention.

The tragedy has left Mohanpur village in mourning. Family members are devastated, with relatives breaking down upon receiving news of Amit's death. Villagers have now demanded immediate financial assistance and government compensation for the bereaved family.

Local residents have also called on the administration to conduct an urgent survey of dilapidated houses in the village given the ongoing rainy season. They are demanding that families living in dangerous structures be relocated to safer locations to prevent further loss of life. The incident has raised serious questions about disaster preparedness and emergency response mechanisms in rural areas.
