Man arrested with four homemade bombs during vehicle check in Pratapgarh

Police in Pratapgarh have arrested a 36-year-old man carrying four illegal homemade bombs during a routine vehicle check in the Raniganj police station area. The accused, identified as Sanjay Kumar, son of late Ram Ajor, resident of Jamtali village, was apprehended near Jargoi drain when he attempted to flee upon spotting the police team. The recovered explosives have been carefully defused by authorities.

The arrest was made as part of an ongoing crackdown against crime and criminals being conducted under the supervision of Pratapgarh Superintendent of Police Deepak Bhukar. Police personnel were conducting checks of suspicious persons and vehicles in the Jamtali area when they noticed a motorcyclist trying to escape. Officers quickly cordoned off the area and caught him before he could get away.

During the search, police recovered four illegal country-made bombs wrapped in black polythene and newspaper from a white bag hanging on the motorcycle's handlebar. When questioned, Sanjay Kumar could not produce any valid license or permission to possess the explosive materials. The bombs were found during questioning after the suspect was detained.

A case has been registered at Raniganj police station under case number 422/2026 invoking sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. Legal proceedings are currently underway against the accused. The police operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police East Alok Kumar and Assistant Superintendent of Police Raniganj Prashant Raj, with Inspector-in-Charge Pradeep Kumar leading the team on the ground.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the intended use of the explosives or whether the accused has any prior criminal record. Further investigation into the source and purpose of the bombs is ongoing.
