Kanpur Schools Shut After Red Alert For Heavy Rain, Waterlogging

Heavy rain has disrupted normal life in Kanpur, with the Meteorological Department issuing a red alert for Kanpur and nearby districts for the next 24 hours.

Kanpur has been receiving continuous rain for the past 48 hours, leaving daily life badly affected across the city. In view of the warning for heavy rainfall, the district administration has ordered all schools from Class 1 to Class 12 to remain closed today as a precautionary measure.

The school closure order applies not only to Kanpur Nagar, but also to Unnao, Kanpur Dehat and Fatehpur districts. The decision has been taken after the weather warning and the worsening situation caused by waterlogging in several parts of the region.

Low-lying areas of Kanpur are now facing flood-like conditions because of the continuous downpour. Several prominent and posh localities of the city have been submerged, including Kidwai Nagar, Govind Nagar, Barra, Yashoda Nagar, Juhi, Damodar Nagar and Saket Nagar.

Water has accumulated up to 2 to 3 feet on roads in many places, making movement difficult and allowing rainwater to enter people’s homes. Residents in the affected areas are dealing with severe inconvenience as the rain continues and water levels remain high on several streets.

Municipal Corporation teams are engaged in draining out the water. However, officials say the situation is continuing to worsen because of the ongoing rainfall. The administration has appealed to people to step out of their homes only if it is extremely necessary.
