Hamirpur schools shut for nursery to class 8 due to heavy rainfall

Schools in Hamirpur district were declared closed today for students from nursery to class 8 following continuous heavy rainfall in the region. The decision was taken keeping in view the incessant downpour and weather forecasts issued by the meteorological department.

District Basic Education Officer Mukesh Kharwar issued an official order announcing the holiday for all primary and upper primary schools in the district. The directive applies to all government and recognized private schools falling under the jurisdiction of the basic education department.

Kharwar has instructed all concerned school authorities to ensure strict compliance with the closure order. The move is aimed at ensuring the safety of young students who may face difficulty reaching school due to waterlogging and slippery roads caused by the persistent rainfall.

The meteorological department had earlier issued warnings predicting continued rainfall in Hamirpur and surrounding areas, prompting the administration to take this precautionary measure. Schools have been asked to remain vigilant and await further instructions depending on weather conditions.

Parents have been advised to keep their children indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the rainy spell. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and will decide on reopening schools based on improvement in weather conditions and safety assessments. No date for resumption of classes has been announced yet, with authorities indicating that a fresh notification will be issued once the rain subsides and normal conditions are restored.
