Kanpur Dehat police arrest man accused of sexually assaulting minor girl

Police in Kanpur Dehat have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl, marking a significant breakthrough in a case that has been under investigation since mid-September. The accused, identified as Vinay alias Chhote Bhaiya, aged 26 years, was apprehended by the Rura police station team as part of a special campaign being run across the district against crimes targeting women and children.

The case dates back to 17 September 2026, when the complainant approached Rura police station and filed a written complaint alleging that the accused, Vinay alias Chhote Bhaiya, a resident of village Benigaon (Banipara), had entered her house and committed an act of molestation with her minor daughter. The police registered a case on the basis of the complainant's statement and launched an investigation into the matter.

However, as the investigation progressed and evidence was collected, police recognized the gravity of the case and escalated the charges. The case, which was initially registered under lesser sections, was subsequently enhanced to include Section 65(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 5(m)/6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, which pertain to sexual assault.

The arrest was made on Sunday, 20 April 2026, after police received precise information from an informer. Acting on the tip-off, a police team comprising Sub-Inspector Uday Singh and Constable Sachin Kumar moved swiftly and nabbed the accused on the road leading towards village Gutaiya Bamba. The team conducted a cordon operation to ensure the suspect could not escape.

According to police records, the arrested accused Vinay, aged 26 years, is the son of Chunna and is a resident of village Benigaon under Rura police station jurisdiction. Following his arrest, police completed all legal formalities and presented the accused before the court.
