Two men arrested after minor girl rescued in Muzzafarnagar sexual assault case

Two men have been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a minor girl in Muzzafarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, with one suspect injured during a police encounter when he opened fire on the arresting team.

Police arrested the accused, identified as Nazim, son of Yamin, and Mohammad Adil, son of Mohammad Iqbal, following an intensive manhunt. The case was registered on August 18 after the minor girl was reported missing. Authorities successfully rescued the victim on August 21, and following her statement, sections related to rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were added to the charges.

Acting on a tip-off from an informer, a police team reached the Kali Nadi bridge area on August 22 where they spotted Nazim. Upon seeing the police, he attempted to flee and opened fire at the officers. In retaliatory action, Nazim was shot in his right leg and subsequently arrested in an injured condition before being admitted to hospital. A 315 bore pistol along with one live and one empty cartridge were recovered from his possession. The second accused, Mohammad Adil, was apprehended by police from Shamli bus stand.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Verma, with coordination from Superintendent of Police City Amrit Jain, Assistant Superintendent of Police Siddharth K. Mishra, and Station House Officer Brijesh Kumar Sharma. According to police officials from Kotwali Nagar police station, teams have been formed to track down other suspects wanted in connection with the case, and search operations are currently underway to secure their arrest.
