Three arrested for abetting suicide of man harassed over brother's elopement case

Three persons, including one man and two women, have been arrested by Musanagar police in Kanpur Dehat within 48 hours in an abetment to suicide case.

The case pertains to the death of Sushil alias Manjhale, whose body was found hanging from a tree in a forest behind a village in the Musanagar police station area. Investigation revealed that on 7 August 2026, a case had been registered against the deceased's brother Anuj Pal in connection with allegedly eloping with a girl, and police had sent the final report to court on 17 August 2026.

Bearing a grudge over this matter, the girl's family members had been continuously hurling abuses, taunting, and issuing death threats to Sushil and his family. Troubled by this mental harassment, Sushil alias Manjhale committed suicide.

On receiving information about the incident, a forensic team collected evidence and the body was sent for post-mortem. On the complaint of the deceased's mother Shivkanti, case number 89/2026 under sections 108/61(2) BNS was registered at Musanagar police station.

Acting on accurate information from an informer, the Musanagar police team arrested the main accused Mahajan, 48, son of Chhotelal Sonkar, and two female accused from Kisan Mohalla in Musanagar town. The arrested accused have been produced before the court.

The police team that carried out the action included Station House Officer Amita Verma, Sub-Inspector Laxmi Prasad Singh, Head Constable Neha Singh, and Reserve Constable Deepti. The report is by Vivek Trivedi.
