Kanpur Dehat imposes traffic restrictions for Shravan month Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage

Traffic authorities in Kanpur Dehat district have announced sweeping traffic diversions and restrictions on heavy vehicle movement to ensure smooth passage for devotees during the Shravan month and Kanwar Yatra. The measures will remain in effect from 8 PM on August 23, 2026, until midnight on August 24, 2026. Traffic police have urged vehicle operators to use alternative routes during this period to avoid congestion and facilitate the religious pilgrimage.

Heavy vehicles traveling from Chaubepur to Shivli on the Jalaun-Jhansi route will now be diverted via Kalyanpur and Panki, proceeding through NH-19 via Barajod to reach their destinations. Similarly, heavy vehicles coming from Kalyanpur toward Shivli or Maitha will be redirected left at village Tikra, routed through Sachendi to join NH-19, with entry from Sachendi to Maitha completely prohibited for heavy vehicles.

Several routes have been declared completely off-limits for heavy vehicle traffic. These include the stretch from Araul in Kanpur Nagar to Rasulabad in Kanpur Dehat, vehicles approaching Rasulabad from Bilhaur, and those coming via Yakubpur intersection from Kannauj or Auraiya. Heavy vehicles traveling from Jalaun to Kanpur Nagar through Bhogniipur will be diverted right at Bhogniipur intersection toward Ghatampur.

Additional round-the-clock restrictions have been imposed on local town routes, extending daytime bans into nighttime hours. The Akbarpur-Rura route, Birhana-Jhinjhak route via Sikandra, and the Raniyan-Maitha road will all remain closed to heavy vehicles throughout day and night during the specified period. Traffic police have also appealed to motorists to give priority to ambulances and emergency services.
