Heavy rainfall swells Chandraval River, cuts off dozen villages in Hamirpur

The Chandraval River in Hamirpur district has been in spate following four consecutive days of heavy rainfall, submerging the main road connecting Gurdaha and Sisolar and severely disrupting transportation in the region. The flooding has left residents of more than a dozen villages cut off from the tehsil and district headquarters, forcing them to risk their lives while crossing the waterlogged stretch.

The swollen river has inundated low-lying areas along its banks, including the villages of Madarpur and Mancha, causing widespread distress among local residents. Floodwaters have entered several villages, submerging standing crops and adding to the woes of farmers already grappling with difficult weather conditions. Villagers have been left with no choice but to wade through the flooded route, putting their safety at risk as the water level continues to rise.

The Chandraval River flows through the Maudaha tehsil area, and its steadily increasing water level has compounded problems for communities living nearby. According to district records, Hamirpur has received 520 millimeters of rainfall so far this season, which is approximately 40 percent lower than the previous year's figures. Despite the deficit, the concentrated downpour over the past few days has been enough to trigger the current crisis.

Affected residents have appealed to the district administration to arrange alternative transport facilities until the water recedes. Raman Kumar Nishad, a local resident of Madarpur, highlighted the hardships being faced by villagers as they struggle to access essential services and reach the district headquarters. The administration has yet to announce any immediate relief measures or temporary arrangements for the stranded population.
